solar eclipse

Mark your calendars for April 8th, 2024! Woodlawn students will have the opportunity to experience something that will not be seen again until August 23, 2044 - a solar eclipse! According to NASA, Woodlawn will experience 98.53% of the eclipse.

Rest assured, we've got both academic enrichment and safety covered for this special occasion. Teachers will provide details on viewing locations closer to the event, ensuring everyone has a prime spot to witness the eclipse safely.

Remember, safety first! The only way to view the eclipse is through solar filters, like eclipse glasses. We've got you covered - thanks to the Southeast Cooperative and Arkansas Department of Education, every student will receive eclipse glasses to wear during the event.

Parents, please reinforce the importance of keeping eclipse glasses on at all times. While we'll do our best to ensure safety, we can't guarantee students won't be tempted to peek. Talk to your child about the significance of protecting their eyes during this incredible event.

An informational letter and permission slip will be sent home allowing you to choose whether your child will participate. Let's make this an unforgettable experience for all Woodlawn students!
