Students in our CTE classes participated in the Get Real, Here’s the Deal simulation this morning. This is a hands-on, interactive personal finance simulation for students, run by the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service. Students start with an assigned “job” (salary, tax deductions, number of dependents) and a checkbook with a starting balance. They rotate through about 12 stations (such as housing, transportation, childcare, insurance, entertainment, and more) where they make real-life financial decisions and face unexpected expenses. The goal is to teach budgeting, money management, check-writing, understanding pay stubs, and the trade-offs adults face in real life.
